Out of assignment hell!

Woohoo!

I've got one left, but that doesn't get marked so I feel like I can relax again.

It's been a tough couple of months, but I'm looking forward to focusing on my quilting over the summer.

I wonder if any of you remember last year I went to the Sandown quilt show and wasn't too impressed? Well I was challenged by Ferret http://www.ferfab.co.uk/ to put my money where my mouth is and get more modern quilts into it.

Lucky a few of the members of the London Modern Quilt Guild took pity on me and have entered. So I had to put in one myself.

I made this for the show but hesitated before going for it. The show is next weekend so if you are in the area try and give it your support and see if you can spot the modern quilters quilts! I hope people enjoy them.

Even though I haven't been sewing, it was my turn in the Fqr Kinky Bee. I was very mean and asked for flying geese blocks in whatever configuration people wanted to make using the fabric I sent them. So far these are the ones I've had back and I absolutely love them. The variety of how my brief has been interpreted is amazing.

The next retreat is in July, but I doubt I will get a top ready to show the ladies.

I hope to become a more regular blogger and commentator now I have less pressure, I've missed you all.

Wish me luck for next weekend. I hope they aren't too mean In their feedback!

Just checking in

Yes, I know I've dropped out of my blogging life again, but my other life is a bit busy and I'm not getting any sewing done at the moment.

I've been able to find a balance between work and my course, I have taken on more commitments including starting as a school counsellor and at the same time we have been given a load of assignments.

I'm making in-roads into the assignments and adjusting to the extra clients but sewing and blogging have to take a back seat for the next little while. It won't be long though - or so I keep telling myself.

See you when it gets a bit easier....

Sandown quilt

I finally got some bigger pics of the sandown quilt. I call it this because I made it with the intention of showing it this year.

I've got a couple of weeks to get the application form in and I want to wash the quilt first to make sure nothing goes wrong i.e. colour bleed. It also has some marks that got made during the quilting so I need to try and get them out.

When I laid it across my mums sofa in landscape I realised how much I preferred it to the way I designed it in portrait.

When I pieced it I started with strips 2.5 inches wide to give you an idea of the scale.

Even if something goes wrong in the wash and I choose not to enter it in the show, I am still delighted with how this came out.

Finish a long - Q2

Well as I only just squeezed one finish into the last quarter, I am going to repeat the same list by editing the post.

I have one further addition as during my scrappy-trip-along addiction I managed to make not one but two tops.

This is the second which needs quilting.

The first one was the Not so Scrappy Tripalong: I have the top all pieced now.

Tufted Tweets top:

Scrappy hexagons: Made using my 2.5 inch scraps, still waiting to be made into a quilt.

The 9 patch group project: I have said much about this, but I have a bunch of handsewn 9 patches made a a craft meeting by various members, some who have never held a needle before. I need to do something with them to turn them into a top and quilt.

I made this FMQ sampler last year and still don't know what to do with it. Ideas? The best I have is a cushion.

Fragments top: This is what I do with all my teeny tiny scraps. I'm close to a quilt size now.

Loving the love top: I've been a bit scared at the size of this top for quilting.

Timber top: I've never finished this off either!

String quilt: I have loads of block quilted already but couldn't find a pick of them.

AMH top: I made this once without any planning. I don't think it will be hard to quilt, but I've never got around to finishing it.

Girl on a swing: Get her finished into something, eg a cushion.

EPP quilt: This is a WIP and I don't know when it will finish.

Q1 FAL

she can quilt

In my original post http://shevvylondon.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/finish-long-q1.html I showed all my outstanding tops in an attempt to get focused.

Foolish I know. I managed to get sucked into the scrappy-trip-along craze and added not one but two new tops to the UFO pile. Then work and life got very busy and sewing went on the back burner.

I finished quilting this top about 6 weeks ago but needed this final push to get the binding on. Its basically a Free Motion Quilting sampler with a few pops of feature fabric.

I wanted to play and doodle with my quilting and practise new designs as well as ones I am already comfortable with. I really really enjoyed making it.

I didn't do any marking apart from using straight line quilting to create bands to work the designs in. Again, that might be clearer when I get better photos.

The flower in the feathers in the last picture is my favourite bit.

Still Alive

I know I've been very quiet lately, not much sewing, lots of work and study happening. I've been very upset by the good reader closure, this will be the second blog reading app that has closed on me. I'm trying out Bloglovin to see how I get on.... Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Finally some quilting

I started quilting this top a few weeks ago but then I had work, class work and flu to content with so my machine went quiet again.

I have a great deal of negative space on the top, so I want to use it as a FMQ sampler/practice piece.

I have divided it into sections and I am slowly going through each one using a different design. I'm basically doodling on my quilt!

I haven't got a plan at all, I basically get to a section and then see what I think up!

It's going to take a while, and some bits aren't great but it is fun!
